Miles to Go Before I Sleep.

Ray Caesar; Catherine Howe; Gottfried Helnwein & Anita Kunz

In celebration of the grand opening and annual exhibition at Gallery House –“Miles to go Before I Sleep” is an homage to a Robert Frost poem; like the poet the artists’ works in this exhibit alludes to the surface of beauty; entices us with dark depths of interpretation and the unwillingness to give up. Dave Kinsey Second Solo Show

Dave Kinsey
Everything at Once
December 13, 2012 to January 12, 2013

"As the show title suggests, Kinsey attempts to convey a world gone mad with media, perpetual conflict, and a sense of the mounting struggle between the urban and natural worlds. Kinsey creates this new body of work through a brash synthesis of materials, textures, and aesthetics, conjuring multilayered abstractions with traces of figuration which create dynamic transformations of images within images." - Joshua Liner Gallery

Espanish Conexion Show

Some really top writers and artists on this list of Spain's best...

Go see the show before it runs out the door on the 16th December.

December – 16 December 2012
Opening 30 November 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Espanish Conexion is a brand new group exhibition, showcasing more than 70 artists who represent the very best of Spanish Art from the Streets. You can expect a wide variety of styles, from the ‘Classic Graffiti’ popularised in Madrid to Barcelona´s own bright, happy, colourful styles… from Black Book pieces to the most current innovative video art…
Espanish Conexion opens the door for a generation of artists that are currently transforming the face of contemporary Spain art.

This generation of artists may be graphic designers, tattoo artists or gainfully employed by international art institutions (Tate, MNCARS, Cervantes Institute), but Espanish Conexion shows they can still grab an aerosol and make a very Spanish statement.

Welcome to Espanish Conexion, a celebration of passion, respect and love of street art. High Roller Society is proud to welcome and host this unique exhibition, curated by PhD researcher Esther F. Castelo with the collaboration of BRK192 and the kind support of Montana.

BLACK XMAS - CURATED BY GAYE BLACK
Date: 29th Nov - 21st Dec 12
Don’t expect jingling bells, carol singers or a Santa’s Grotto this year at Signal for Christmas. After a year of jubilees and twinkling medals, we really felt the need to redress the balance with something not festive at all. So we asked our resident Punk legend Gaye Black (aka Gaye Advert), who’s always in favour of a good dollop of the dark side, to curate this one with malice.
Signal Gallery, 32 Paul Street, London EC2A 4LB
Opening Times: Tues-Sat 12-6 pm, and by appointment at other times.

Vinnie Nylon Poptimism Show

Good friend, Vinnie Nylon has been involved in the street art and graffiti movement for over 25 years, producing walls, prints, paintings, graphics and billboards for a variety of small and international companies and commissioners.

This all new body of work is born out of a lifelong collecting obsession, a visual playground in which all of the collected toys and mascots meet head on, a collision designed to level the fields of high and low art. Where old meets new and ultra cute takes on a slightly sinister undertone.

Since the mid 90s Vinnie Nylon has been placing an army of candy coloured characters and advertising mascots onto canvas and walls. A new spin on old favourites, a savage twist on others, all harking back to a simpler post war era when the distinction between childhood and adulthood was so much clearer.

Lost icons that are no longer employed to distract us from the austerity of mid century Britain and America take on their new guise to reclaim their rightful place in a new visual universe.
Television as smokescreen, popular as social acceptance, reality sugar coated with a big goofy smile slapped on it. Poptimism reintroduces, reevaluates and explores the themes of seduction by ad media, sentimental attachment and mass production.

The works on show include vintage petrol cans, sticker art, fanzine and screen print as well as a number of new paintings and mixed media pieces. Trademark bright colours and thick impasto sit beside the more demure offerings of hand finished print and collage pieces.

The frame is the door that leads into a world of visual pop delights and plastic fantastic high low art for all to enjoy, so step inside and keep it pop, never stop playing.

High Roller Society Gallery
8 September – 7 October 2012
 Private View 7 September
6:00 – 9:00 pm. All are welcome.

Barry McGee Show BAM/PFA

Arrested Motion have great coverage of Barry McGee's show at BAM/PFA that opened yesterday. Wish I could see all his retrospective work in one massive show...

"San Francisco-based Barry McGee returns for his first Bay Area solo museum exhibition in 18 years at BAM/PFA (UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive). This will mark his first midcareer survey, in which all of his previous major installations have been reinterpreted and put under one roof (from his van installation at REDCAT to his Street Market at Deitch to a 1999 stolen mural that was placed on Howard Street in San Francisco, just to name a few). This exhibition as been three years in the making, with the elaborate set-up first starting 2-1/2 months ago."

DZINE: PHENOMENON

Late night opening: Friday 27th July, 6.30-8.30pm
(in association with SLAM Fridays)

Friday 27th July - Sunday 12th August

"When I was approached by the artist Hew Locke to take part in Deptford X, I immediately accepted. Not only am I fan of his studio practice, but when I found out it's proximity to the London Olympics, together with the work I was producing for my upcoming exhibition at the Dallas Contemporary, it felt like serendipity"
- Dzine

BEARSPACE and Deptford X are pleased to present the first UK solo show of Chicago based artist Dzine, invited on the occasion of Deptford X 2012. Phenomenon is curated by Hew Locke and Indra Khanna and is one of the highlights of the Deptford X programme, during the Olympics 2012. Phenomenon consists of a combination of mediums, which capture the spirit of “Szwaybar,” a phenomenon that is central to the youth of Curacao, and never previously documented or viewed outside of the Island.

Melbourne Group Exhibtion: Paperape

Paperápe is a group show featuring seven Melbourne artists who, over the past year, have formed a collaborative friendship via their mutual love of art. Heesco, Jack Douglas, Pierre Lloga, Facter, Mysterious Al, Hancock and Conrad Bizjak are now coming together to share their passion for painting walls, drawing and enjoying the vibrancy of Melbourne street art, and life in general.

Often finding themselves escaping the trappings of 9-5 work by hanging out and painting on the weekends, these seven artists now paint together under the somewhat humourous moniker of We Spray Weekends (WSW). From the side streets of the suburbs to the cities laneways, exhibitions and live art events, all the artists within Paperápe are all highly prolific and consistently chasing the artistic dream.

Paperápe will be an exhibition of paper based works showcasing each artists unique style and talent, offering a snapshot of their current directions and a glimpse towards several larger projects planned for the future. With drawings, paintings, collage, prints and other paper based works on display Paperápe is an exciting showcase of current work from a diverse and talented group of friends.
