Melbourne Group Exhibtion: Paperape

Paperápe is a group show featuring seven Melbourne artists who, over the past year, have formed a collaborative friendship via their mutual love of art. Heesco, Jack Douglas, Pierre Lloga, Facter, Mysterious Al, Hancock and Conrad Bizjak are now coming together to share their passion for painting walls, drawing and enjoying the vibrancy of Melbourne street art, and life in general.

Often finding themselves escaping the trappings of 9-5 work by hanging out and painting on the weekends, these seven artists now paint together under the somewhat humourous moniker of We Spray Weekends (WSW). From the side streets of the suburbs to the cities laneways, exhibitions and live art events, all the artists within Paperápe are all highly prolific and consistently chasing the artistic dream.

Paperápe will be an exhibition of paper based works showcasing each artists unique style and talent, offering a snapshot of their current directions and a glimpse towards several larger projects planned for the future. With drawings, paintings, collage, prints and other paper based works on display Paperápe is an exciting showcase of current work from a diverse and talented group of friends.

'In Stock' & 'The Stockwell Winter Games' 4th Dec

'In Stock' & 'The Stockwell Winter Games' will be taking place on Sunday the 4th December starting at 1pm at Stockwell Bowels South London. Since the success of 'Out Of Stock', we have been busy organizing an event to better the last with the addition of the 'Stockwell Winter Games'. This new addition will be a test of nerve and character of those locals hardened enough to enter the competition. The Winter games will feature both BMX riders and Skateboarders (but no Scooterers or Roller Bladers I'm afraid) to include the majority of those that frequent the park. Events featured will include:

- The Hi-Jump: Competitors will face our height bar out of the sugar bowel. Last man standing wins!
- The Long Jump: Longest Ollie / Bunny Hop in 3 attempts wins!
- Fastest Lap: 3 attempts to set the fastest time round the set line.
- *ALL NEW* Timed run: 3 minute run around the park to show us what you got. Judges will rate your performance on skill / number of tricks / creativity.
- Best trick of the day: Best trick of the day in any event wins!
(Prizes supplied by DCshoecousa)
Any amateur skateboarder can enter so get down early to grab your place in the line up.

The day will continue on with 'In Stock' exhibition at The Queens Head Pub. This will start at 5pm there with the premiere of new DC flow rider Josh Jennings video edit (Nik Jones) and a mixture of old and new artwork, photography and film from the Stockwell locals. There will also be local bands and DJ's to entertain, many of whom you'll have seen down at the park....if you're local that is!

Board @NGV Studio Melbourne

I'm definitely making sure I get to this!!

Board is all about the creativity behind skate culture.
Presenting 1970s & 80s skateboards and ephemera from Tony Hallam’s collection alongside decks created for the exhibition by 50 Australian artists, it explores the evolution of board graphics and design.

Senior Curator of Contemporary Art Alex Baker states: ‘Tony Hallam’s collection digs deep into the formative years of skate culture during which board graphics evolved from simple lettering to elaborate artwork. Once a professional skateboarder, Hallam has gone to painstaking lengths to track down some of the most important boards in history. On view at NGV Studio are gems such as Tony Hawk’s first signature model (1982) and an early Zephyr board (mid-1970s) personally owned by skateboard legend Stacy Peralta. The selection of skateboards and ephemera in Board allows an insight into skateboarding’s surfing roots through to its cross-fertilisation with punk rock and other renegade sub-cultures. Hallam’s is considered one of the most comprehensive skateboard collections in the world, and the NGV is honoured to present it to both avid skate fans and non-initiates alike. This is an important lesson in another form of art history – one that speaks a language that originated on the streets and is ongoing today.’

Doodle Jam kicked off again at the Notting Hill Arts Club last night. With live artwork from Mr.Gauky, Bromley & The 5683, there was an impressive set of canvas up for sale and a fair bit of drunk doodling. Doodle Jam is done for this year, but will be back again next year in February, so if you were too hung over to make it this time round put Anti-Valentines Day Doodle Jam Special in your diaries with more stuff to draw on than you can shake a dead cat at!

Chaos and ruin. Technological trends corrupting. Deformation, anatomical abnormalities, degradation and displacement. Whether related to the human body and spirit or the human environment, it is the 'anti' utopia.
