Kuro Megami by Junko Mizuno

KURO MEGAMI
BY JUNKO MIZUNO

$400
11-INCH VINYL
EDITION OF 200
The goddess beckons. Flowers seductively lead to the serpent in her womb. She wears a coat of hair that shines like armor, protecting her body as well as her identity. Two sweet and small guards stand at her feet with chains holding them in two of six gloved hands.

Like the Asian ancients before her, she commands power with imagery and attention with metallic. Under her breasts, a skull and heart reside. She houses both life and death. She is a symbol for worship and a vessel for cosmic energy: strong and unsympathetic.

Releasing November 20 in a limited edition of 200, each piece is hand numbered with the artist’s signature engraved on the bottom, and exclusive to black.kidrobot.com and select retailers worldwide.

Alex shared a few works from this exhibition and the stories behind them for their latest portfolio review."

Los Angeles, 2001
“I took this photo over 10 years ago. It was my first trip to Los Angeles. Looking back at it now, I realize that I have spent a lot of my life jumping fences, going into private property, and generally living with heaps of passion, freedom, and the frequent desire for a good adrenaline rush! This is where it all began. I took this when I went to skate at some spot in LA’s suburbs.”

Bassano del Grappa, 2011

“One day, my Papa came to me and said that he wanted to start a new business. He had been selling military supplies for half of his life and wanted to change his job. He now dresses up like this year-round and is the sole subject of my upcoming exhibition ‘SANTA IN CAMO.’”

Bucarest, 2007

“I met this guy on a Subway platform. He told me that he was a gypsy and pulled a knife from his pocket to show me, not caring that there were cleaners and other people on the platform.”

Jack Stocker Illustrates Sneakers

Jack Stocker illustrates Nike sneakers throughout the ages. The 18-year old illustrator undertook the project as his final university assignment (yup, he's still studying) and decided to replicate the colours of the iconic sneakers from the late '80s and early '90s.
Using simple coloured paper Stocker constructed the silhouettes of the shoes, including the 1987 Air Line max, 1989 Air Pressure and the 1990 Nike Air Factor.

We Are Batman

Brazil-based graphic and web designer Billy Butcher took Batman’s final words in The Dark Knight Rises quite seriously (or not so) and decided to imagine how artists and celebrities from past and present would look as if they were the caped crusader.

Dave Kinsey Second Solo Show

Dave Kinsey
Everything at Once
December 13, 2012 to January 12, 2013

"As the show title suggests, Kinsey attempts to convey a world gone mad with media, perpetual conflict, and a sense of the mounting struggle between the urban and natural worlds. Kinsey creates this new body of work through a brash synthesis of materials, textures, and aesthetics, conjuring multilayered abstractions with traces of figuration which create dynamic transformations of images within images." - Joshua Liner Gallery
