Paul Booth Dark & Evil Tattoos

Paul Booth is now, thanks to Jerome Tcherneyan's info, one of my fave dark tattoo artists of the 21st Century. Just look at his evil evil portraits of monsters, freaks, horror & beauty!

After devoting nearly twenty years of his life to the art of tattoo, where he is revered for his efforts to elevate the medium into the realm of fine art, Paul Booth has become a household name. His unparalleled dedication to the evolution of his craft has garnered him numerous awards around the globe, top tier magazine features (among them, many cover stories), public and television appearances including CNN, MSNBC, DISCOVERY, A&E, TLC, MTV and more.

Through his deep involvement in organizations such as The National Arts Club – one of the oldest and most respected art institutions in the Nation – Booth is continually driven to help push the tattoo industry forward in as many ways as possible. In 2000, he created an international art movement called “The ArtFusion Experiment” with Filip and Titine Leu, world-renowned tattooists from Switzerland.

Booth’s masterful paintings and macabre tattoo art is notable for its aggressive nature, and, as such, has been in high demand among dark art and tattoo enthusiasts for decades, including numerous major bands in the metal scene such as Slayer, Slipknot, Pantera, Down, Lamb of god and many more.

Booth has recently stepped into the arena of film. His directorial debut, the award–winning feature documentary The ArtFusion Experiment, continues to extend the reach and success of the movement he created. As a director and lifelong horror fan, he finds film to be an exciting and fresh form of expression.

Rage Against The Machine Take Christmas No.1 Slot

THE best news I have heard in AGES!!

"Rock band Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the Christmas charts tonight after a hugely popular Facebook campaign helped the Los Angeles nu-metallers snatch the Christmas number one slot from X-factor’s Joe McEdlerry.

More than half a million people downloaded the band’s famously anti-authoritarian and expletive laden track “Killing in the Name” in what was seen as a broad protest against the increasing influence of manufactured pop music.

It is the first time a non-X-Factor song has made it to Christmas number one for four years and represents a major snub to the show’s creator Cowell who angrily described the campaign to him another number one slot as “very Scrooge”. - Source

For the readers not living in the UK, this is huge as the Xmas number one slot is taken very seriously and if you manage to take number one, your pop-musical career usually fares very well the year after...It's amazing to see a grassroots campaign on Facebook with a zero marketing budget able to topple the big TV networks and all their meticulous planning and PR....

Chinese Heavy Metal

China's youth are really starting to rebel hard against the system with bands like VoodooKungFu leading the way. Their blend of Chinese traditional musical instruments, heavy guitar riffs and screaming in Mandarin creates a very progressive sound and pushes the envelope of 'Metal' even further. It's so interesting to see how a generation gap between parents and kids can be so far removed from each other. Anyone who is 40 yrs old and above would have been brought up with a mix of Communist and Confucian education, whereas the kids now have the internet as a tool of education.

Go HERE to see an excerpt from the recently released documentary, Global Metal. This clip focuses on China and how its Metal roots were sowed. A very interesting 14 min.
Thanks to the beautiful Veggie Heart for all the info and metal inspiration!

Until The Light Takes Us

Following on from the last post, Until The Light Takes Us is a new documentary featuring key founders of the Black Metal genre. Set to be released later on this year, fans of this music will not want to miss it. Featuring interviews with Varg Vikernes of the one man band Burzum, Gylve Nagell, Kejetil Haraldstad and film maker Harmony Korine, this feature presents interviews about the murders, arson, through a candid account of a sub-culture immersed in fact/fiction, myth and mystery that spiraled out of control. espv Clipped

Clipped celebrates great artists and MVs released over the years and pays tribute to those amazing bands that dared to push the boundaries with music videos that rocked us all. Before YouTube pulls all MVs from their site because of copyright complications, we thought we’d feature some of our all time favorites. This month the ESPV team starts the Clipped ball rolling with none other then the gods of MV darkness – Tool. Featuring two amazing clips per week, this week we kick it off with Prison Sex and Vicarious. Enjoy!

Zach is Back One Day As A Lion

That's right. Zach De La Rocha, of Rage Against The Machine fame has teamed up with Jon Theodore (Mars Volta drummer) to create a new two-man band called 'One Day As A Lion"

The band writes:

“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”

“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”

Check out their MYSPACE to hear one of the tracks. Otherwise wait til the 22nd July to get their new EP released on indie label Anti-Records.

WhiteBoysForBlackLizzie

Life not terrifying enough? Then try this. White Boys For Black Lizzie is the second ep to be released by this Leeds based tragedy. Not one for the feignt-eared, this record had me hooked for a long while. You can hear filth from this bands myspace profile. Having been into the work I'd done for their previous albums, they have just asked me to design for their third release White Boys for Brothel Med Clinics which I have been told contains more detritous than the crackhead nest in that abandoned building you were warned never to go to. What desturbs me most however is that my actual brother provides the vocals for this band and he's the sort of person you'd happily invite to yer mums for tea and a natter.

Enjoy
