Sam Brown is a multi-award winning director who transcends various styles and genres of the moving image. He has worked with music names that we all know; from Foo Fighters to James Blunt to The Verve and produces quality videos which, in his words, “Bring out the best in the artist”. I couldn’t agree more; Sam seems to have a gift for capturing artists in a very personal and endearing way, with none of the glam & glitz that Hollywood-made MV’s tend to have the look of.

At the age of 23, BURNS is fast gaining a reputation for British dance music these days. As well as a string of remixes for the likes of Empire of the Sun, Late Of The Pier, Passion Pit, Filthy Dukes, Yuksek, Melanie Fiona, Calvin Harris, and the Gossip under his belt, BURNS has also been releasing all instalments of his series of four singles (these being BURNS’ ‘1’/’2’/’3’/4’) this year. According to him however, none of them will be on this debut album, which is expected to be out in 2010.

Karen Morrison is a London based designer/maker. She runs a fairly new company, doing pretty much everything herself, apart from getting outworkers to help when she has got big orders in. Karen designs and makes the jewellery, does the photography, business and has built her own website. A lot of the things she does are self-taught, you learn as you go on. She designs and makes two or three collections a season gathering inspiration from the catwalk, fashion magazines and her natural environment.

Power Loader Exoskeleton Suit A Reality

Engineers from Activelink, a Kyoto-based subsidiary of Panasonic, have begun creating an exoskeletal suit that can give its user super strength!


According to PinkTentacle: The suit is built on an aluminum-alloy frame and weighs 230 kilograms (500 lbs). Described as a “dual-arm power amplification robot,” the exoskeleton suit is currently equipped with 18 electromagnetic motors that enable the wearer to lift 100 kilograms (220 lbs) with little effort. In addition, the Power Loader’s simple, intuitive control system employs direct force feedback, allowing the operator to directly feel the movement of the robot while controlling it." For sale in 2015, it aims to help people with heavy lifting in factories and in disaster relief projects....

Bra That Turns Into Gas Mask Wins Ig Nobel Prize

Dr. Elena Bodnar from Illinois, USA has won the Ig Nobel prize for her bra that converts into a pair of gas masks - one for the wearer, the other for a friend.

Dr. Bodnar, a Ukraine native who now lives in Chicago, started her medical career studying the effects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. If people had had cheap, readily available gas masks in the first hours after the disaster, she said, they may have avoided breathing in Iodine-131, which causes radiation sickness.
The bra-turned-gas masks could have also been useful during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and for women caught outside during the dust storms that recently enveloped Sydney, she said. ' You have to be prepared all the time, at any place, at any moment, and practically every woman wears a bra,' she said, noting that a bra cup, no matter what size, is the perfect shape to fit over the human mouth and nose.

'Lovestain' A Solo Show By Miss Van

StolenSpace are proud to present 'Lovestain' a UK premier solo show from world renowned female street artist, Miss Van. A retrospective as well as a new body of work and taking over two exhibition spaces at StolenSpace, this will be her largest solo show to date.

Toulouse native and current Barcelona resident Miss Van started to paint her graffiti on the streets during the 90s, at the age of 18. Her overtly feminine street art was a breath of fresh air in a traditionally masculine movement of urban art and paved the way for many contemporaries. Now her infamous sultry female characters, known as her ‘Poupes’, are seen on the streets and in galleries alike all over the world.

Featuring a retrospective of her work & new paintings this show will also see the release of a rare exclusive hand pulled limited edition screen print from Miss Van.

Inspired by the nostalgia of 55DSL’s fifteenth birthday, ‘The Learning’ gives a nod to the past in its resurrecting of the old. The work is new, but the delivery is traditional. Over-head projectors, slides and frames give the viewer a chance to interact and be educated in Andrew Clark's first solo exhibition that won him so many admirers in 2009, with this latest showcase of work.

UK Internet Ranks 25th - 'Not Fit For The Future'

Research sponsored by Cisco has ranked the world’s broadband networks, with the UK performing poorly in 25th place.

The research was based on 24 million speed tests performed in 66 countries. The ratings focused on both download and upload speeds, as well as latency, combined with broadband penetration to create an overall index of quality.

Sitting atop the table was South Korea then Japan, whose super-fast broadband was already judged to be fit for future applications such as streaming High Definition video.
At 25th, the UK came behind Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia to name a few. In fact both Bulgaria and Latvia had “ready for tomorrow” rated networks.
We’ll still be lagging just a tad behind South Korea, a country which is talking about having widespread 1Gbps by 2012. Yes – 1000Mbps. Makes you want to cry into your router…
