Remember the catcopter? Well now someone's gone and pimped that idea by using an ostrich.
The original catcopter.

Grounded - A Downright Gorgeous Short Film
Grounded, a short film by Kevin Margo follows the final moments of extrasolar astronauts. I don't fully understand it, but I can watch it over and over.

Creepy Pencil Art
Laurie Lipton was born in New York and began drawing at the age of four. She was the first person to graduate from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pennsylvania with a Fine Arts Degree in Drawing (with honours). She has lived in Holland, Belgium, Germany and France and has made her home in London since 1986. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the USA.
Lipton was inspired by the religious paintings of the Flemish School. She tried to teach herself how to paint in the style of the 16th century Dutch Masters and failed. When traveling around Europe as a student, she began developing her very own peculiar drawing technique building up tone with thousands of fine cross-hatching lines like an egg tempera painting. “It’s an insane way to draw”, she says, “but the resulting detail and luminosity is worth the amount of effort.

Peter Gronquist Bling Taxidermy
"Peter Gronquist is a Portland-based mixed media artist, whose glitzy gold plated weapons and taxidermy sculptures are both a celebration of decadence, while at the same time, address pressing issues of consumerism and war. For his latest solo show, 'The Evolution will be Fabulous,' Gronquist expands on the taxidermy aspect to his work, incorporating a variety of pollards, accessorized with gold, guns and Gucci."

Russian Man Tattoos His Cat
Timur Rimut from Tatarstan, Russia, has given his pet cat a tattoo identical to the one inked on his chest. The naturally hairless sphynx cat was put under anaesthetic to receive the tattoo which was done in the presence of a veterinarian and an anaesthesiologist but has still drawn the ire of animal rights activists in Russia.
If that's not enough, he also has a tattoo of his cat on his forearm, with it's tattoo.

Ultimate Tazer Ball - The Future of Sport?
Part lacrosse, part rugby and part The Running Man – the Ultimate Tazer Ball League may be stunning audiences near you, if league organizers have their way. The world's newest sports league has four teams, two in California, one in Philadelphia and another based out of Toronto.
However, the Toronto Terrors might be at a distinct disadvantage because they can't actually practice the game because stun guns are illegal in Canada. Yes, stun guns are as important to the game as a stick is to hockey.
The game's rules are fairly simple. It pits four players a side in an arena roughly the size of a hockey rink. There are nets at both ends and the players score by putting a large soccer ball (it's a bit heavier than a basketball) into the goal. Of course to score, the team must make its way down the field dodging tackles and players armed with hand-held stun guns -- who are allowed to zap the ball carrier. First team to score five points, wins. A demonstration video on the league's website http://utblive.com/ shows players collapsing to the pitch, writhing in pain, after being stunned. There are also goals and bodychecks.
All I can say is....WTF?!

Drink Your Own Pee - NASA Style
Remember the opening shot of Waterworld where Kevin Costner pees into a cup, puts it through a machine, and drinks it? Would it greatly surprise you to know that NASA is working on giving this technology to the astronauts?

The process uses forward osmosis, which is “the natural diffusion of water through a semi-permeable membrane from a solution of a lower concentration to a solution with a higher concentration”. This allows you to urinate into a bag, and then use the syringe attached to the receptacle bag to turn your liquid waste into a sugary electrolyte drink.

I’m not certain whether I want to be the first to drink this. Some of you are probably finding this entire subject matter to be “gross”, and I think that is a perfectly human response. I would imagine that someone has to go against their natural instincts and actually try to drink the filtered urine.

Artery Cloggers Part 1
You may feel nauseous after looking at these pics, but you have to admire the originality.

The Hamdog: A hot dog wrapped in a beef patty that’s deep fried, covered with chili, cheese, onions, served on a hoagie bun topped with two fistfuls of fries and a fried egg.
The Double Bacon Burger Fatty Melt: Three bacon-stuffed grilled cheese sandwiches for buns, cheese, bacon and 2 four-ounce patties.

Assy McGee
Wow. I got told about this by a colleague, it was totally inappropriate but I am really pleased they did! Basically it's a cartoon about a talking ass with a gun who solves crimes. Yep. I love it. The animation is cool too.

Amazing Weed Farm
This time, a special architectural post. These photos are of a hidden weed farm in Tennessee. The guy who invested all his time and effort into this hidden grotto of treasure deserves a medal. Obviously, I wouldn't be writing about this secret place if it hadn't been busted. The police apaprently found a sophisticated operation which grew as much as 100 pounds of marijuana every eight weeks. How was he busted?

The thick metal door to the secret passageway was held in place by a hydraulic motor. If someone didn't want you to enter, you would probably need a small bomb to get in.

The cave itself stretched 250 feet (nearly the length of a football field!) Inside the cave there were offices, living quarters, and a growing area.
So what gave it all away? - "Electrical Power Disruptions" The men started stealing electricity from the local power lines to supply their fortress. They spliced into wires and caused power disruptions to the local area. Supervisors at the local power company were losing power somewhere and decided to look into it....
Read the detailed story HERE.
A big thanks to Word To Mother for the info!!!
