LittleDog Robot

This is a creation from Boston Dynamics who help develop and build advanced robots for clients such as the US Army and SONY. It's totally weird but totally cool!

Interesting Cameras Of Old

Le Coultre Compass Camera
Designed by Noel Pemberton Biling, and manufactured by Swiss watchmaker Le Coultre, the Compass incorporated the most features in the least possible space. Long before our modern micro miniature digital cameras came along, the Compass camera had just about every feature imaginable in the smallest possible size. It even incorporated stereo and panoramic photo features. The complete kit includes a beautifully made tripod with a pocket clip like on a pen.

Thornton-Pickard MkIII Hythe
Designed to emulate a Lewis machine gun, the Hythe camera was used as a training tool for aerial gunners. In wartime, 120 roll film was much cheaper (and safer) than live .303 ammo. The "gun's" controls are comparable to an actual Lewis gun, but the charging handle advances the film and cocks the shutter. The trigger fires the shutter. The simple fixed focus, aperture and shutter speed were intended to judge a gunner's aiming skills, not take a pretty picture. Although purely a camera, it uses an actu al functioning Lewis gun magazine.

3 Chance Encounters

I have had the pleasure of meeting three talented & very friendly writers in the past couple weeks around East London....all of them are up big-time and it was great to be able to put a face to the names that I've seen for years in LDN...

SNOE, TRP

REAP, 1003PV

R.I.P. Dennis Hopper

Dennis Hopper, the high-flying Hollywood wild man whose memorable and erratic career included an early turn in "Rebel Without a Cause," an improbable smash with "Easy Rider" and a classic character role in "Blue Velvet," has died at the age of 74.
Hopper died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice, surrounded by family and friends, family friend Alex Hitz said. Hopper's manager announced in October 2009 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Deep Powder Bertie MK2 and WWR Euro Square

I was so happy to have finally received my order from OneSixthBruce of a "Deep Powder" Bertie MK2 & WWR "Euro" Square last week where it has taken a prime spot on my shelf next to Usugrow's "Rebel Ink" figure.

Next on the wish list is to get a couple Brambles, if 3A are going to bring out a second editon, that is.

VNA Issue 11

Thanks to a kind donation from the VeryNearlyAlmost boys, I have had some great toilet reading over the past 2 weeks. VNA issue 11 (Available HERE) has been a very good read. It features a great range of features on artists, including London's Insa, Case of The Maclaim Crew, Gaia from Baltimore, photographer Ruedione and the San Fransisco based artist Mike Giant.

Nice work guys! Am looking forward to Issue 12 already!

R.I.P. Dr Sennheiser

Late during the evening of 17 May 2010, only a few days after his 98th birthday, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fritz Sennheiser, audio pioneer and founder of today’s Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG, passed away.

Through his company Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser had a crucial influence on the development of sound transmission technologies and was instrumental in forging many ground-breaking developments in electroacoustics and transmission technologies. Under his guidance the first shotgun microphones and open headphones were created and he oversaw important developments in wireless radio and infra-red transmission.

Bryce McGlone Mecha Lego

Bryce McGlone has a truly gifted Lego-mind...
Though apparently he's not one of the movers or shakers in the Lego community, he is fairly active in the smaller mecha community and by extension the Bionicle community. Currently Bryce is building mostly Bionicle models only because his building techniques are "geared more towards the ball socket joints and an open ended building style loosely termed "weave". umm OK..(just admit ur damn good!)

He works in Hollywood at a Post Production facility. In short, he puts together TV shows from the daily camera reels to the final air masters that you see on TV.
He does commissioned work as well. He can build just about anything you can imagine. Though employed as a manager in the Post Production industry, Bryce has a background in design.

Winscape Concept

Winscape, a combination of two 46-inch Panasonic TC-P4610 plasma screens, a Mac, a Wii remote, a custom-built IR-emitting necklace, and an iPhone app, creates a panorama through two virtual "windows" displaying "live" scenes in 1080p video and sound. The system tracks the necklace's movements in relation to the window, mimicking a realistic view out of the window. A stunning concept at the least (no more looking out on a dingy alleyway!), and it can be yours for the low price of $3,000.
Many thanks to Adriana Wong for pointing this amazing concept vid out to me!

Art Events Thursday 27th May Onwards

‘New Ways of Seeing’, is the eagerly awaited first solo exhibition from Static. The show will be on display in our London gallery space located on 42 New Compton St and will feature an entirely new body of work from the artists.

The exhibition promises to add a little something extra with Static becoming artists in residence for a week whilst they completely customise and transform every square inch of the two-floor gallery space, creating not only the perfect backdrop in which to show the work, but also offering a completely unique experience that will transport the viewer into the world in which the work is set.

Vilchez’s UK solo debut opens at the Pure Evil Gallery on May 27th to exhibit a collection of his freshest work, a stunning group of Maikos. These apprentice geishas take Vilchez’s eye for complexity and strong graphic image to a new level.

Hailing from the small town of Oliveira in the South of Spain, Vilchez breaks down traditional print techniques and distills centuries old illustration processes . Preferring the detail of dry crystal etching and a mix of woodcut and linocut relief, Vilchez extracts vibrancy, intricacy and the cult of cool from his medium, creating complex, vastly impressive works that twist conventional iconography with influences from street art.

Vilchez, drawing upon conventions of tradition and culture , has created a new body of work that appropriates works of Japanese heritage, elevating his individual technique to capture layers of detail and dynamic interpretation of femininity and sexuality.
