Each year, for the last 7 years, Art Review has created the top 100 list of most important people in the art world today. This year, not surprisingly, was topped by British artist Damien Hirst, with 18 or so other Brits in the top 100. Banksy actually made it to No:63, which ain't too bad!

4 Sir Nicholas Serota Museum Director British

5 Iwan Wirth Gallerist Swiss

6 Jay Jopling Gallerist British

Interesting that they term it the most powerful people in art, but it does show off what is the state of the art world: the most powerful aren't the creators, but the collectors and speculators. In that respect it makes the art world exactly like the world of comics.

But I guess that's how it should be, the artists are making art for others to appreciate, as much as they think they're doing it just for themselves.
